President Obama's Budget Prioritizes Waste

WASHINGTON — Institute for Energy Research President Thomas Pyle released today the following statement in response to President Obama’s FY2015 budget:

“President Obama’s budget proposal reinforces his desire to continue the destructive energy policies that have marked his entire presidency. Despite calling it an ‘all-of-the-above-strategy’, the President’s budget priorities hamper affordable and reliable energy sources while propping up expensive and unreliable ones. In his budget, the President once again calls for the expansion and permanent extension of giveaways for the wind and solar industries. These centuries-old technologies should be able to stand on their own without lavish taxpayer support.

“While the President bolsters green energy with one hand, he obstructs common sense energy policies with the other. This includes blocking natural gas and oil development on federal lands and waters. In his budget, the President takes credit for increasing America’s energy security, but in reality, natural gas and oil production on federal lands have significantly decreased under his administration. Our country is moving towards greater energy security despite the President’s policies, not because of them. America is fortunate to have an abundance of resources that provide people with affordable and reliable energy, but we need policies that support, not discourage, the development of these resources. Fortunately for the American people, this budget will amount to nothing more than a set of talking points for the President’s teleprompter.”
