IER’s Dan Kish appeared on Fox News to discuss the offshore moratorium on deepwater drilling. The Obama Administration enacted the moratorium on July 12 in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
The moratorium was supposed to prevent another oil spill, but the unintended consequence of thousands of lost jobs. As one of the workers in this clips says, “It’s not the drilling industry that’s affected, it’s everyone that…has anything to do with the Gulf.” Retailers, restaurant owners, and other small businesses depend on the revenue and population that offshore drilling brings to the area, and they will continue to bear the brunt of the moratorium’s economic effects until it is lifted.
