FERC Chair Richard Glick blasted a Wall Street Journal editorial speculating that he’d had improper talks with White House officials as “complete bull” and said administration officials had no influence in developing its plan to increase the environmental scrutiny the regulator applies to new natural gas projects.
The newspaper speculated in an editorial that biweekly meetings between Glick and Deputy White House National Climate Adviser Ali Zaidi may have concerned the policy guidance agreed the Democratic-controlled regulatory agency issued earlier this year, and which was quickly rescinded.
“I take FERC ethics very, incredibly seriously,” Glick told reporters following the monthly open meeting, adding he would “never ever” violate FERC rules that bar commissioners from discussing matters pending before the commission to outside parties.
“I also take FERC’s independence very seriously.” he said. “And that means that no one in the administration, I would never allow them to tell me what to do. And the good news is that this particular administration, they don’t do that.”
