On Tuesday, August 7, IER Senior Vice President Daniel Kish joined Gerry Willis to discuss rising gas prices and issues affecting fuel refineries. Aging refineries are now being forced to meet demand due to regulatory hurdles that keep industry from building new refineries to increase capacity and reduce the strain on existing ones.  “A lot of this can be traced to government regulations that have closed refineries, made existing ones larger, and continued to make it worse,” Kish told Willis. “We’ve got the refining capacity, but it’s been concentrated in larger and larger places because they’ve driven out the smaller refiners through government regs.  That means that when one of them goes down, all hell breaks loose in terms of the delivery of gasoline.  The government has watched this happen, and yet we have an EPA that continues to throw out regs.”
